Commercial or private insurance is a health insurance plan that is not offered by the government.

Where can I get commercial or private insurance?

You can get it through your or your spouse’s job. You can also purchase a commercial plan directly from an insurance carrier, at HealthCare.gov, or from an insurance broker.

When can I get commercial or private insurance?

You are able to enroll in commercial or private insurance once a year during a specified enrollment period called Open Enrollment, but if you have special circumstances, like you’ve moved to a different area, you’ve lost your coverage, or you’ve just become a citizen, you will still be able to enroll after Open Enrollment has closed.
